Gumroad's Growth Potential is Huge But Most Writers Know Little About It
Gumroad’s Growth Potential is Huge But Most Writers Know Little About It. I changed one stupid setting to enable this extra cash flow stream.

When you think of Gumroad, what comes to mind? Digital products, right? Yeah, me too! But let’s get specific. Are we talking paid or free? Most creators on Gumroad try to sell their stuff at affordable prices, usually throwing in one or two freebies to attract potential buyers.
This is wrong! Yep, you heard me right. It’s the wrong way to do this!
I’ve done things differently.
I don’t try to sell. I give everything for free. Crazy, huh? I believe most creators underestimate the earning potential of free products on Gumroad. Seriously, every free product I have has generated revenue. Every single one.
So far, every free product has generated some revenue!
Here’s what I mean:
I enabled everything for free with the option for buyers to pay if they want to — this way I generate emails for my newsletters.
For all free products, I enabled boost with Gumroad earnings at 70% — this way Gumroad starts recommending my freebies, even if they’re free. This means more sales.
I published my affiliate application page for anyone who wants to recommend my products and earn extra cash. Yes, you can do that, look at the hub profile. And yes, you can earn, even if they’re free! Because some people decide to pay.
So far so good. But I was missing one major thing! I knew I could become an affiliate to creators I love, but that’s tedious — I need to ask each one of them individually, as most of them don’t publish their Affiliate application page publically.
I’ve heard about Gumraod global affiliate, but never found it in the settings. Until yesterday…
It’s a stupid setting thing. Turns out, it’s been hiding in plain sight. It’s a simple setting tweak that was right under my nose the whole time.
You just need to go to the Checkout page settings and enable it. By default, it’s set to “don’t recommend any product.” Switch it to “recommend all products,” and you’re back in business! Like this:
For every purchase you recommend you earn 10%.
Not bad, right?!
Today I saw this in my inbox:
I’ve earned my first commission of $2.80!
Not bad!
Most creators underestimate the power of free products on Gumroad. Here’s my growth since I started:
It’s not a ton of money yet, but I expected none! And look at the growth trend! That’s without the affiliate I just enabled. Not to mention the additional affiliate links and earning opportunities, I place in the free products.
And let’s not forget the value of having the customer’s email. That’s pure gold!
Most writers underestimate the huge potential of free products on Gumroad. Don’t try to sell. Give everything for free! Watch the magic happen.
Remember, the only thing standing between you and success is the fear of trying something new. So take the leap. Give your products away for free and watch your audience — and your bank account — grow.
See you next time!
