I stopped writing every day on Medium this month.
I didn’t feel good being on Medium anymore. There was a good reason why: A lot of writers get banned or revoked from the Partner Program for no reason, without doing anything wrong!
And this keeps happening!
No upfront notice, no chance of getting reinstated, and no proper explanation. Just a vague general answer — one that is sent to everyone affected.
Medium treats its writers unfairly.
Writers are the ones who make the value of this platform. Their product is for sale by Medium via the memberships.
It’s the writers’ product — this is what readers pay for. This is what Medium makes money out of, not memberships.
Readers subscribe to read someone’s story, so if this someone doesn’t write who will they read? Why should they pay if there’s nothing to read?
If no one writes, what will readers pay for?
Medium treats its writers unfairly.
In the meantime Medium allows AI-generated stories to get promoted by the algorithm. Loads of them! Free to read! Maybe Medium doesn’t want more subscribers anymore?
Consequently, genuine writers get pushed away.
Medium treats its writers unfairly.
This is not right.
So I stopped writing on Medium every day.
But you know what?
I don’t feel better.
I don’t feel better when I don’t write.
This was a mistake.
And this is me correcting it.
Am I addicted to writing?
Maybe…
I just feel the need to write every day now.
So here I am.
Writing.
I feel accomplished when I write. With:
every headline
every finished story
every new post
It’s a small win!
Real dopamine!
Writing makes me a better person. So I’ll keep writing. With or without Medium I will write.
Period.
Thanks for reading!
